Background

Eltham Terrace Club opened in January 2013 and already has 1000 members. They are a small up-and-coming private members club offering kalooki, snooker, darts and of course poker. The club has a Club Gaming Permit, and they have 6 poker tables and offer poker tournaments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

You will find a mostly members from the local areas at the club so there is a friendly community feel with plenty of banter. There are some good players, but mostly you will find recreational players at this club.

Darts is also a big thing at the club and they have Andy Fordham and Ted Hankey as regulars, and a regular Sunday tournament where they normally have about 25 players.

Promotions

They have a tournament league where you pick up points with your tournament entries and wins. 5% of their weekly tournament prize pools go to the league prize pool. The current league is running from September to December with the final taking place on 22nd December. The club is adding £500 to that.

Food & Drink

The club has a a well-stacked bar but not much on the food front. They only offer bar snacks , so if you want to eat you can bring your own food to the club.

Membership

You need to sign up 48 hours in advance, so don’t forget to to do that before you come to the club. You can sign up online.

5 stars out of 5 Fantastic club atmosphere, great tourneys , 15 Jun 2017

Easily my favourite of the 4 poker rooms I play occasionally across London. It's very much more member's social club than corporate cardroom - there is pool, darts and snooker in addition to poker. The management are extremely welcoming to newcomers, and remembering your name even after a break is a lovely and very welcome touch. The tournaments (I haven't played cash here) are very well-run indeed. Dealers are the funniest and friendliest in London, by some distance. They know their stuff and get on with it whilst enhancing everyone's evening. The proportion of regulars here is greater than anywhere else I play - I'd say upwards of 75% but I don't think newcomers are made to feel unwelcome or uninvolved. Inevitably regulars know each other's styles of play etc. but that's to be expected, and a new member has to take this on board. The room is airy, with plenty of space around the tables (unlike some other London card rooms), and friendly waitresses are very regularly coming round taking orders for drinks or snacks. No free drinks, but you're not paying loads on top of your entry fee so that doesn't feel unfair at all. The standard of play evens itself out and I'd say is probably slightly higher than some of the more "touristy" venues in London. By some margin my favourite place to play poker in London, even if it's a good way out of town. I don't mind making the trek out to Eltham whenever I'm free on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday evening.

people i see are moaning about a poor standard of play.poker is supposed to be fun,it shouldn`t matter what standard people are playing to.it`s a friendly place and i can`t fault it,shame these `so called pros` have forgotton how to have fun and wake up each day with `money money money` constantly on their minds.

This place is friendly enough, the manager in fact puts himself out to talk to new players, which is nice. But if you want an enjoyable game of poker don not go here. Every hand you play (doesn't matter how much you raise) you will get called by most of the table, turning it into a bit of a game of bingo. Such a shame as it is really close to my house.

I'm happy to say that this problem has now been addressed. Straddles are now only allowed under the gun.

I have played at ETC several times I find the standard of player much the same as in other poker rooms I have played in ( I think I have probably played in most places around the London area) you get some people which are absolute calling stations, rock and the players which do know what they are doing but this is the nature of poker it's open to everyone it also gives u great value, all day long if I behave a hand like AA I want to be called by a station with Q9 suited 9 time out of 10 my hand will hold but there is always a chance it will loose such is the nature of the game. I find the atmosphere friendly and relaxed with proffessional dealers and great prize pool guarantees on comps, as well as sky sports being on and pool, snooker and darts available to play. I will definitely be going back.

Literally the lowest standard of play I have ever witnessed. A room full of inexperienced calling stations. The people are friendly, but it is not an enjoyable game.

4 stars out of 5 Friendly, welcoming social club , 21 May 2015

People moaning about the standard of poker here (or anywhere else, for that matter) are probably just smarting after a bad beat. Same as anywhere else, play the players AND the cards. I have found this place to be a good local venue for poker tournaments. New members are genuinely made to feel welcome. Of course it's different to the big card rooms in town - this is a CLUB (clue's in the title, folks) and most players know each other, know each other's games, so on your first couple of visits of course you're feeling like the odd man out on the tables. The action does tend to be wilder than elsewhere in my experience but you either have to use that to your advantage, or it's just not for you. Dealers are very knowledgeable and efficient, and generally friendly too. The overall feel is like a social club, not a big chain card room. It's convivial, welcoming and comfortable. I wish there were more places like this elsewhere in the country offering good tournaments and good prizes.

The worst place I have ever played poker. Most playing rubbish hands constantly bingo. Anyone who knows about poker and knows how to play would hate this venue. Its clearly a business set up by a few people who just wanted a venue of there own to play poker as there one bed flat just wasn't big enough. Much better places for a good game avoid this bingo hall.

What a great place been coming here now for a long time and if anything its getting better and better the poker is great well run reasonably priced. Darts good comps even won it a few times, Pool brill if only I could beat Tony Gear Doh ......As for most of the other reviews lots of fair points but it has to be said that you can please some of the people some of the time. Great place give it a try you won't be disappointed. Only downside is 48 hour rule applies...

4 stars out of 5 Good little poker club , 19 Apr 2014

I've played in various poker clubs across the South East over the past 10 years and I must say that this one of the best ones. The tournaments are well organised, with good structure and plenty of play. The tournament director is experienced resulting in a smoothly run and disciplined competition. Rulings are fair and consistent (unusual in most small poker clubs). Whilst some dealers are fairly inexperienced, they are all competent and everyone has to start somewhere. The standard or opposition is what you can expect from a small poker club. Quite a lot of a gamblers wanting to see a lot of flops and spin up some money in the comps and on the cash tables. But enough competent players and a handful of good ones to keep it from being a crap shoot. Two things prevent this club from getting 5 stars. Firstly, they pander too much to the crazier element in the cash games who just want to gamble. This includes allowing unlimited straddles of any size from any position! This has totally ruined the cash games on occasions and those who want to straddle £80 in the cut-off in a £1-£1 game should be given directions to Mecca Bingo. Secondly, the promotions and league should be better publicised. I've played there 4 or 5 times now with nearly £1,000 been taken from the prize pools for the 'league' yet I can find no information about it. If money is being taken from the prize pool, players have a right to full disclosure about where it is going and how they can try to win it. There is an announcement about how much has been taken, but I can't find any further details. The full league rules, procedures, points etc should be prominently displayed, published on the website and regularly updated.

I have been playing here from the days when they struggled to get a single table of players. I am happy to report that those days are long gone and the tournaments now regularly attract 40 - 50 players. This is not a casino poker room linked to a large brand; this is an independent private club which has other games as well including pool, snooker and darts. This means that they don't have the same licence structure as a normal casino and you need to register 48 hours in advance. (I don't know if you can play as a guest of a member, it would be worth checking out) This is a drawback but its worth doing if you want to play in this very friendly room. The standard of play is very variable and play can be very loose. Personally I don't mind loose players as thats how you make money. Cash games are the same and there can be a lot of money on the table at the end of a hand! If you live in SE London you should definitely check them out. Staff - Friendly and helpful. Dealers - Good and professional

5 stars out of 5 Really friendly and Welcoming , 7 Oct 2013

I have been to pretty much every poker club in London and find this very friendly and welcoming. There can be the one odd dealer who might not be professional and knowledgeable but most of the dealers have experience working for a long time as dealers in other poker clubs in London. The management is trying their best to give the best service. The players have increased in numbers which is another good thing. The standard of play can be at a very low stage where you could see 5-6 or more seeing a flop. But there are a few good players. Free drinks on the cash table and is something that not every poker club offers. Free offstreet parking near to the club is also a positive. Having Four Big TV screens with sky sports, American Pool, English pool and Snooker, Darts, Kalooki and Chess is really is also good. It takes 24hrs to become a member which is not really a good first impression because many new members visit the club hoping to play on the same day.

I have played at the Eltham Terrace Club several times not only in the poker comps but in the pool and darts comps too, And I have to say that I have never been to a more friendly club. The barmaid remembers my name and how I have my tea/coffee, they are always helpful with any questions I have. I recommend you give it a go you will have a enjoyable night out...
